We have recently finished our parental engagement programme with two classes at Broadsquare Primary school, both classes culminated in very successful parental engagement workshops!
The workshops were successful in terms of the fun and learning had by children, parents and teachers. One of the most important successes was the fantastic turn out from parents and carers.
Engaging parents can be a challenge; during our first few parental engagement workshops, we had a low turn out of parents despite our best efforts, and many who attended were reluctant to engage with the workshop itself. However, we have continued developing our parental engagement programmes, overcoming challenges with by developing newsletters to send to parents & carers throughout the program, as well as follow up reminder texts and messages from teachers.
We have seen a huge increase in the turnout of parents & carers, and in their engagement during the workshops themselves. Through support, encouragement and discussion, we now have a number of parents and carers engaging in games and, most importantly, stepping into role with the children to practise asking for help.
We are very excited about this continued increase in engagement and can’t wait for our next workshops!
